Sustainability + Transparency

Respect for the Earth is at the forefront when designing all of our products, meaning they will be staples in your closet for years to come.

Sustainable + Ethical Production

From the beginning, our goal when we founded salt + umber was to create a thoughtful collection that is better for people and the planet.

We work directly with family owned factories and we support female entrepreneurship through partnerships with women artisans who create our unique woven sandals.

Our Founder makes annual visits to India and we have certifications from world-accredited auditors twice per year to ensure that our labor is ethically produced, and, fair trade, keeping our artisans in safe working condition with living wages.

Advocates of the Fashion Revolution phrase "Who Made My Shoes"

We're on a mission to unite designers, makers, distributors and wearers to work together towards changing the way footwear is sourced, produced and consumed.

With concerted efforts across our entire supply chain empower us make each and every pair of shoes we make traceable, including sourcing of materials from local suppliers as often as possible.

Minimizing Our Carbon Footprint

Each pair is shipped direct from one single warehouse, to ensure the lowest impact on the environment by cutting down gas emissions. We have no middle man.

We are rooted in an anti-fast fashion model, which that means each pair is meant to last, with an emphasis on high quality, longevity, and comfort.

This approach empowers us to slow down production, and create unique styles that are not mass-produced. The entire process from design to shipment is intentionally and thoughtfully planned to have a minimal impact on the environment.

Additional Ongoing Efforts

Our minimalist packaging is 100% recycled. 25% of our FW22 collection is made from up-cycled leathers and components, and we increased to 30% for 2023 production.

Low waste cutting dies + surplus materials
